A compact, programmable macro deck designed for reliable, local control of Home Assistant and other automation systems.

The BTN-1 Macro Deck is a physical control surface built for smart home automation, macros, and custom IoT workflows. It features four hot-swappable mechanical brown switches with white keycaps and dedicated LEDs for per-button status feedback, giving you tactile, glanceable control over your automations.

The device connects over Wi-Fi and integrates directly with Home Assistant, Homey, and other compatible systems. Power is supplied via USB-C or an optional internal battery, making BTN-1 suitable for both fixed installations and portable setups.

BTN-1 works especially well with this Home Assistant blueprint, allowing you to configure single, double, triple-click, and hold actions for each button with minimal setup. This makes it easy to map complex automations to simple, repeatable physical inputs.

Use Cases

  • Trigger complex Home Assistant automations, scenes, or scripts with a single press.
  • Control lighting, media, climate, or other smart home devices from a dedicated physical interface.
  • Use as a macro deck for streaming, media playback, or workstation workflows.
  • Build custom control panels for labs, workshops, or building automation setups.
  • Future updates: Extend functionality with modular add-ons such as e-ink displays, NFC readers, or sensor modules.

Key Features

  • Four hot-swappable mechanical brown switches
  • Individual front-facing LEDs for button status and feedback
  • Wi-Fi connectivity for local smart home integrations
  • USB-C power or optional internal battery support
  • Native Home Assistant compatibility (blueprint available)
  • Designed for automation, macros, and custom control interfaces

Power & Battery Options

BTN-1 can be powered via USB-C or an optional internal battery.

About WiFi

Wi-Fi is a powerful wireless communication technology that has revolutionized the way we connect and interact with various devices in our homes and offices. Operating on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, Wi-Fi enables high-speed internet access and seamless communication between smart devices, ensuring that everything from your smart thermostat to your security cameras stays connected. Its widespread availability and compatibility with most electronic devices have made it the backbone of smart home ecosystems, providing users with the convenience of remote control and automated functionalities from virtually anywhere.

One of the key benefits of Wi-Fi is its ability to handle large amounts of data and support multiple devices simultaneously. Unlike Bluetooth or Zigbee, which are designed for low-power applications, Wi-Fi excels when it comes to bandwidth-intensive tasks such as streaming video, downloading large files, or managing real-time security feeds. This makes it an excellent choice for smart home devices that require constant connectivity or significant data transfer, including video doorbells, smart TVs, and home automation hubs. With Wi-Fi 6 and other advancements, Wi-Fi technology is continuously evolving, delivering faster speeds, reduced latency, and improved range, ensuring your devices can maintain a reliable connection even in larger or densely-built homes.

The integration of Wi-Fi in smart devices promotes a user-friendly experience through mobile apps and voice control, allowing you to manage your smart home at your fingertips. With a strong Wi-Fi connection, you can access and control all your devices remotely, set automation routines, and monitor your home for security or energy efficiency. However, the reliance on broadband internet means that any disruptions to your connection can affect the performance of your smart devices. Nevertheless, as smart home technology evolves, Wi-Fi remains an essential element, enabling enhanced connectivity, flexibility, and the ability to create truly integrated environments that adapt to your lifestyle.
